Treats for our Four Legged Friends

My black labs are always helping me out in the kitchen (and by helping I mean getting in my way), but rarely do they get to indulge in the sweets I make. I thought it was about time to reward them with some homemade dog treats. These biscuits are all organic and wheat, corn and soy free! Here's both a sweet and savory recipe adapted from the Bubba Rose Biscuit CompanyMake these for your pooch and spread the puppy love with the printable gift tags.

Cheesy Dog Biscuits
Makes about 24 biscuits

INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 cups oat flour
1 1/2 cups brown rice flour
1 cup shredded low-fat cheddar cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 egg
1/2 cup water
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or non-stick liners. Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly until a dough forms. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to 1/4" thickness. Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Place on the cookie sheets (they can be close together as they don't spread much while cooking.) Brush cut-outs lightly with milk. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool completely before storing in an airtight container. Biscuits will stay fresh for about a week.

The Recipe calls for Oat Flour and I couldn't track any down, so I decided to make it in a food processor. Simple!

These dog bone cookie cutters were perfect for the job! (I know, who has dog bone cookie cutters!!)

This set of letter impression stamps from Michael's are meant for clay, but I thought they would be perfect for any cookie imprint.

Give them a light wash with milk (aids in browning) and pop 'em in the oven!

I also made these easy Snickerdoodle dog treats as a sweet bite-sized alternative to the biscuits. This method is great if you don't have cookie cutters.

Snickerdoodle Dog Treats
Makes about 100 Treats
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 cups oat flour
1 1/2 cups brown rice flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 egg
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 cup honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup water

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or non-stick liners. Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly until a dough forms. Roll mixture into small balls (about 1" in diameter). Place on the cookie sheet (they can be close together as they don't spread while cooking). Using the back of a fork, press down on the balls, flattening them and adding decorative lines on the top. Brush lightly with milk. Bake in the oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool completely before storing in an airtight container. Treats will stay fresh for about a week.

Ball jars are a great way to gift these treats. Print out the gift tag at the end of this post and you'll have a tag with the recipe on the back. Personalize your gift with a handwritten message on the tag.

Save and print these gift tag and label files and get in the kitchen. Your four legged friend is probably already there waiting for you.
